After 15 years of quietly waiting in the shadows of our “mine”, we are thrilled to announce that our full collection or more than 1000 vintage Hawaiian shirts is now available for viewing. This eclectic assortment spans from the 1940s to the 1990s and features a rich variety of patterns—from lush tropical florals to scenic island vistas—each telling its own story.
“For most people, Aloha shirts are about a lifestyle, casual and fun. It would take several lifetimes of visits to the Hawaiian Islands to collect all of the shirts that are now in the Design Library” says Dale Hope, a long time friend of the Design Library and widely considered one of the foremost authorities on Aloha shirts.
The collection is now on display at our Hudson Valley archive, where visitors can experience the shirts in person. As well, our London archive has a curated collection for in-person viewing.
For those who cannot make it in person, we are pleased to offer virtual viewings from our New York and London offices.
